Biography
Born in Granada, Spain. Together with her brother Rosario studied ballet, classical Spanish dancing and flamenco under the tutelage of their mother Rosario Romero.
They moved to Madrid where they appeared in Carlos Saura’s movie El Amor Brujo.
They have won numerous professional prizes among which are: the Cultura viva National Prize for Dance(2008); Medal as Ambassador of the Culture and prize for best performance at the Khamoro Festival of Gypsy Culture, Prague.
They appear at theatres and festivals throughout the world in ballets choreographed by Ricardo.
They took part in the 6th International Mariinsky Ballet Festival at which they presented Ricardo’s ballet Eterno, created for Farukh Ruzimatov; in the Farukh Ruzimatov and Friends Gala at the Shinjuku Bunka Center,Tokyo. Carmen, a ballet choreographed by Ricardo Castro and Ángel Rodriguez, was shown at the International Forum in Tokyo. Appearing in the lead roles were Rosario Castro and Farukh Ruzimatov as well as principal dancers from the Mariinsky and Mikhailovsky Theatres and the Nacho Duato Company. Carmen was also performed at the 175th anniversary celebrations of the Mikhailovsky Theatre and at the Mikkeli Festival, Finland.
They participated in the Festival of the Aegean on the island of Syros, Greece (directors Peter Tiboris and Renato Zanella), where the world première of the ballet Brishen (choreographers Ricardo Castro and Renato Zanella) took place, with Rosario Castro dancing the lead.
As guest artists they toured the cities of the USA with their Homenaje (Homage) project dedicated to the great dancer Carmen Amaya.
They are the artistic directors of the Carmen Hall Theatre in the Spanish Village theme park, Shima, Japan. They have collaborated with the Kintetsu Corporation and the Walt Disney Company.
For ten years they danced at the world famous Tablao Flamenco “Corral de la Morería” in Madrid. At the same time, together with their brother Jose Romero, they set up their own company Suite Española with which they have appeared at different theatres and festivals: Kharkov Theatre of Opera and Ballet, the Odessa Philharmonia, the Ukraina National Palace of the Arts, Kiev, the Rossia State Concert Hall, Moscow, Servantino International Festival of the Arts, Mexico, the Khamoro Festival of Gypsy Culture, Prague, Amala Festival of Gypsy Art, Kiev; they have also performed, among other places, in Hong Kong, Singapore, Sydney, Thailand, Indonesia, Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco.
