Biography
In 1973 he graduated from the V. Surikov Moscow State Academy of Art Institute as scenographer. He taught at MAXY (The Moscow State Academic Art College in memory of 1905) and was chief scenographer at the Kirov Youth Theatre.Since 1985 he has been chief scenographer at Moscow’s Russian Academic Youth Theatre.
He has done the sets at this Theatre for over 50 productions among which are: Forgive me after Viktor Astafiev, Yuri Shchekochikhin’s Trap Number 46, Size Two, Tic Tac Toe based on the play by Alexander Chervinsky, Mayakovsky’s The Bath-House, O. Yurev’s The Love for Three Oranges after Carlo Gozzi, Shakespeare’s King Lear and Romeo and Juliet, Racine’s Berenice, The Captain’s Daughter after Pushkin, Little Lord Fauntleroy after Frances Hodgson Burnett, Anne Frank’s Diary Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett, Alfred de Musset’s Lorenzaccio, Erast Fandorin, In and Yan. White Version and In and Yan. Black Version after Boris Akunin. The Cherry Orchard and Chekhov’s-Gala after Anton Chekhov, Tom Stoppard’s trilogy The Shores of Utopia, The Musketeers after Alexander Dumas, The Portrait after Gogol, Crimson Sails after Alexander Grin, Mourning Becomes Elektra after Eugene O’Neill’s trilogy, E. Mann’s Nürnberg.
He has worked on productions for other theatres in Russia and abroad including The Bolshoi Theatre, The Moscow Arts Theatre, The Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko Music Theatre, The Sofia Opera House, Berlin’s der Freundschaft Theatre, The National Theatre of Reykjavik.
