Biography
At the Mariinsky Theatre, Irina Bogacheva has created many roles that are now considered masterpieces in opera today. These include Marfa in Khovanshchina, Lyubasha in The Tsar’s Bride, Marina Mnishek in Boris Godunov, Carmen in the opera of the same name by Bizet, Amneris in Aida, Azucena in Il trovatore, Eboli in Don Carlo and, of course, the Countess in The Queen of Spades among others.She has performed the finest roles from her repertoire at the world’s most prestigious opera houses including La Scala, the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and the Opéra Bastille.
Dmitry Shostakovich composed his series of songs to poetry by Marina Tsvetaeva especially for Irina Bogacheva.
Irina Bogacheva has a huge number of audio and video recordings, and is a professor at the St Petersburg State Conservatoire. Her pupils include Olga Savova, Yuri Ivshin, Natalya Biryukova and Natalia Yevstafieva.
