Awards

In 1988, he won the 1st prize at the All-Union Competition of Ballet Dancers, in Moscow and the 2nd prize at the International Competition of Ballet Dancers, in Varna.
In 1995, he was awarded the title of Merited Artist of the Russian Federation.
In 2001, he was awarded the order of Friendship.
In 2008, he was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the Russian Federation.


						

Biography

Born in Moscow. In 1988, having completed his studies at the Moscow College of Choreography (Alexander Prokofiev’s class), he joined the Bolshoi Ballet Company.
In 1992, he gradated from the performers faculty of the Institute of Choreography (today College and Institute have been amalgamated into the Moscow Academy of Choreography).
His teacher-repetiteur was Mikhail Lavrovsky.
Retired in 2010/11.
Since 2011 he has been Artistic Ballet Director in the Chelyabinsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre.

Tours

Yuri Klevtsov has numerous foreign contracts. From 1995-96, he was guest soloist with Argentine’s Teatro Colon Ballet Company where he danced leads in the classical and modern repertory and participated in the Company’s premiere production of La Fille mal gardee (choreography by F. Ashton).
In 2000, he danced the part of Ferkhad at the premiere of Legend of Love at the State Theatre of Opera and Ballet, Istanbul.
He has participated several times in the international Stars of the 21st Century project, organized by the Canadian impresarios Nadia Veselova-Tencer and Solomon Tencer (these gala-concerts of the world’s ballet stars have taken place in Toronto, Paris, Cannes, New York, Tokyo).

In 2008 he created the role of Claydius in Hamlet ballet (music by D. Shostakoich, choreography by A. Fadeyechev) at the Rostov State Opera and Ballet Theatre.
At the Chelyabinsk State Opera and Ballet Theatre he staged Nutcracker (together with M. Bolshakova; 2013), Swan Lake and La Bayadere (both — 2014).
