Biography
In 2015/16 Roman Burdenko performed the title roles in Simon Boccanegra and Aleko as well as Germont in La traviata with Valery Gergiev for Mariinsky Theatre, Ford in Falstaff for the Royal Danish Opera Copenhagen and for Opernhaus Zürich with Fabio Luisi and alongside Bryn Terfel, and Tomsky in Pique Dame for Mariinsky Theatre and Opernhaus Zürich.During the 2014/15 season Roman Burdenko has made his debut at the Bavarian State Opera as Belcore in L'elisir d'amore (Asher Fisch / David Bösch), returned to Glyndebourne as Germont in La traviata (David Afkham / Tom Cairns), performed Tomsky in Pique Dame with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra Moscow, and has sung the title part in Prince Igor, Germont in La traviata, and Tomsky again with Mariinsky Theatre.
Past engagements include the title role in Nabucco for the Grand Théâtre de Genève (John Fiore / Roland Aeschlimann), Ford in Falstaff at Glyndebourne Festival (Mark Elder / Richard Jones), Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor for Opéra de Lille (Rizzi-Brignoli / Stanislas Nordey) and Riccardo in I puritani for Las Palmas de Gran Canaria Opera Festival (Eric Hull / Mario Pontiggia),Tonio in I Pagliacci , Alfio in Cavalleria Rusticana and Rangoni in Boris Godunov for Teatro Municipal de Santiago de Chile, Marcello in La Bohème for Komische Oper Berlin, Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor for Palm Beach Opera, Paolo Albiani in Simon Boccanegra in Chile and Opéra national du Rhin in Strasbourg.
Since 2013 he is regularly invited to the Mariinsky Theatre in Saint Petersburg with roles including Escamillo in Carmen, Robert in Iolanta, the title part in Eugene Onegin, Belcore in L'elisir d'amore, Don Carlo in La forza del destino and Conte di Luna in Il trovatore.
In 2017 he appeared in Un ballo in maschera (Renato) with Deutsche Oper Berlin, a concert version of Tchaikovsky's The Maid of Orleans (Dunois) and Lucia di Lammermoor (Enrico) with Las Palmas Opera, Cavalleria rusticana (Alfio) and I Pagliacci (Tonio) with Opernhaus Zürich; debuted at the Rotterdam Gergiev Festival in Prokofiev’s Ivan The Terrible, as Stankar in Stiffelio with Bilbao Opera (role debut).
His recent engagements include: Tonio (Pagliacci), Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana), Andrei Shchelkalov (Boris Godunov) at the Grand Théâtre de Genève, and Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier) at Deutsche Oper Berlin, Alfio (Cavalleria rusticana) and Tonio (Pagliacci) at the Dutch National Opera.
In 2017 he debuted at the Bolshoi Theatre, performing the title part in Prince Igor. In 2019 he sang Rodrigo (Don Carlo).
Roman Burdenko is the winner of many prestigious singing competitions including the 1st Prize at the 2011 Competizione dell’ Opera International Competition in Moscow, the 2nd Prize at the 2011 Concours de Chant Lyrique Long-Thibaud-Crespin in Paris, the 3rd Prize at the 2012 Placido Domingo’s Operalia in Beijing, and the 2nd Prize at the 2013 32nd International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Amsterdam.
