4th prize-winner at the 3rd International Byul-Byul Competition (Baku, 2005).
He was awarded the International Union of Music People medal (Moscow, 2006).
2nd prize-winner at the 2nd Galina Vishnevskaya International Competition for Opera Singers (Moscow, 2008).

						

Biography

Born in Baku. In 1997, he graduated from the Azerbaijan State University of Culture and Art with the profession of film director.
In August 2005, he enrolled at the Summer Academy of the Mozarteum University (Salzburg, Richard Miller’s class), from 2006-2007, he studied with Alessandro Misciasci.
In 2005-2007, he did a special course at the Opera studio attached to the Baku Academy of Music where he studied under the direction of Azad Aliev.
In 2007, he became a probationer and soloist at the Galina Vishnevskaya Opera Centre (teacher — Badri Maisuradze), where he made his debut in the role of Escamillo (Georges Bizet’s Carmen).
Since 2008, he has been a soloist with the Bolshoi Theatre Opera Company.

He has appeared in Moscow, Yaroslavl, Archangelsk, Vienna, Salzburg, Milan, Paris.
In December 2007, he took part in the I International Mstislav Rostropovich Festival in Baku.

Among engagements of the 2017/18 season: Ibn-Hakia (Iolanta) at the Savonlinna Opera Festival (Bolshoi Theatre tour, conductor Tugan Sokhiev), Carlo Gérard (Andrea Chénier) at the Hungarian State Opera (in concert, conductor Jader Bignamini), Macbeth at the Festival d’Opéra, Lyon and Scarpia (Tosca) at the Ópera Nacional de Chile, Santiago.

In the season 2018/19 he has appeared at the Metropolitan opera in such productions as Samson et Dalila (Abimelech) and Iolanta (Ibn-Hakia).
In May 2018, appeared as Grigory Gryaznoy (The Tsar’s Bride) at the Shanghai Grand Theatre (Bolshoi’s tour in China, conductor Tugan Sokhiev).
In July 2019 he appeared at the Bravo Vail Music Festival in Colorado as Scarpia in Tosca, conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin.

In the 2019-20 season, Elchin Azizov returns to Metropolitan Opera twice, first in his role debut as Paolo in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra and then as Lescaut in Puccini’s Manon Leascaut.
