In a Jewel of a Role
For the first time since she left the Company, Natalia Osipova is to appear in a Bolshoi Theatre production. She will dance the title role in Giselle (Yuri Grigorovich production). When, a month ago, the winners of the English Critics Circle National Dance Awards were announced, Osipova carried off prizes in two nominations: Best Dancer in 2014 and Outstanding Female Performance (for her interpretation of the role of Giselle in the Royal Ballet production). Her Albrecht at the Bolshoi will be Royal Ballet Principal Stephen McRae.

In the year of the 175th Tchaikovsky anniversary, the Bolshoi Theatre presents to its audiences Lev Dodin’s The Queen of Spades — a production which has already been shown at three of the world’s leading opera-houses. But in Russia, in addition to being the première of a notable Dodin production, it will also mark his debut as one of the world’s great directors of dramatic opera — in which capacity he has long been known abroad.

Onegin, one of the most popular John Cranko creations thanks to which made by John Cranko owing to whom the thanks Stuttgart Ballet acquired world fame, entered the Bolshoi Theatre repertoire in 2013. Then came a performance in Moscow’s Onegin by Stuttgart Ballet soloists. And, finally, on the eve of Orthodox Christmas the Bolshoi Ballet Onegin soloists were invited to Stuttgart for a return visit: they danced the leads in Onegin with the Stuttgart Company and enjoyed a great success. One can find the evidence on Facebook: “WOW! What a great Onegin performance we were able to enjoy last night at the Opera House!!! Thanks again to the five wonderful dancers from Moscow: Vlasdislav Lantratov, Evgenia Obraztsova, Semyon Chudin, Anna Tikhomirova and Vitaly Biktimirov. Bolshoi Ballet is going to perform its The Taming of the Shrew in Monaco (December 19-21). The premiere of the ballet choreographed by Jean-Christophe Maillot took place this summer and made a great success. Expecting the Bolshoi’s visit to Monte-Carlo Jean-Christophe Maillot welcomes the troupe.
